Group F/64

Group F/64, a sort of secret society for elite photographers, was co-founded in the early 1930's by Imogen Cunningham, Henry Swift, Edward Weston and most famously Ansel Adams.  The group was formed with the purpose of creating a 'common aesthetic principle' - one that was also quite modern for the 1930's.  F/64 referred to the very small aperture setting on a large format camera and the end result being sharply focussed and carefully framed images.  Ansel Adams became famous for his shots in the High Sierras and Yosemite using this exact style and technique.  The results are in his own words, "...an austere and blazing poetry of the real".
