Maine

If you drive east from Portland, through the craggy cliffs of Cape Elizabeth where Winslow Homer painted his coasts, along into Wiscassett, Rockland, Camden, Rockport and further still, you will hit the Blue Hill Penninsula. It is surrounded by the Bays of the Penobscot and Blue Hill as well as the Atlantic Ocean. Deer Isle is seperated from the coast by only a bridge yet you feel millions of miles from anything remotely close to civilization. If you want to feel small and yet quite large at the same time this is the place to go.

Places to note - Marston House B & B in Wiscasset, Reds in Wiscasset for lobster rolls, Spread in Portland for Cocktails, Primo in Rockland for the best meal of your life, cellar door winery, manor inn in castine, samoset rockland, farnsworth museum for new england artists in maine (ie. Andrew Wyeth, Winslow Homer, Rockwell Kent, Hopper),  Winslow Homer's studio in cape elizabeth, Fore Street in Portland for dinner.

De Kooning Retrospective

My reasoning for starting this online, visual diary was so that i could record exceptional trips and events, sights and sounds. Things that have moved or changed me in one way or another.  The Willem De Kooning Retrospective at the MOMA is no exception.  I loved that in short a walk from one room to the next brought you to a new era and a new style. You could very visibly see the changes in his work from year to year.  Some subtle, some drastic.  There was a point where you knew exactly when he really started to hit his stride as an artist and have his own very unique "voice".
